Dear CVS Families,

This year we will be utilizing the learning management system, Schoology, in our classrooms. The online educational resource serves not only as a social networking service, but also a virtual learning environment for K-12 students. This particular tool will allow our educators to create and share academic content with your children to bolster their educational experience while here at Chippewa Valley Schools.

While we are currently facing challenging times, and COVID-19 has presented us with a very unique set of circumstances, it is my hope that Schoology will allow us to grant your children the quality education they would receive if they were in the traditional classroom setting. As we move to blended learning, I will be relying heavily upon the online platform to provide students with access to exceptional learning materials and engaging lessons, while simultaneously delivering feedback, assessing content knowledge, and fostering a sense of community within our Physics I course. Students will receive individualized evaluations in a timely fashion. You are highly encouraged to review this feedback with your student and monitor their progress in the course. Schoology has been selected as our district-wide learning management system in part based on its ability to sync with additional educational technology tools. Not only will we be implementing PowerSchool’s Unified Classroom to administer grades and track student progress, but we will also be incorporating various elements from Discovery Education and Khan Academy to present students with a comprehensive view of all physics-related material. I will also be incorporating resources from OER Commons, along with various other tools and support systems, to ensure that all of our students have their educational needs fulfilled and accommodations met. Schoology will support such endeavors with their highly customizable user interface and vast array of accessibility features. What’s more, Schoology will also allow us to connect our Office 365 accounts to ensure that students are able to turn in their assignments in a quick and efficient style.

Students will automatically be enrolled in each of their classes on Schoology by the district’s IT department. Likewise, parents and guardians will also be registered in an appropriate role-specific manner on the platform. Should students need help managing their Schoology courses, I will be providing an in-depth overview of the platform during the first week of school while we are together in class. Additionally, I will be holding two conferences via Zoom for any parent or guardian that requires training in order to successfully navigate the learning management system. Additional information regarding these online meetings will be forthcoming.
